MUSKEGON, Mich. - Mercy Health is building a new $270 million hospital at 1500 E. Sherman Blvd. and U.S.-31.

The new hospital entrance, emergency department, outpatient pharmacy and surgical services should open this fall.

The remaining floors of the 10 story tower will open in 2019.

The regional, multi-campus, Catholic healthcare system has a second building currently under construction in Muskegon County.

That one is located at 2600 Holton Road. It will serve as a primary care facility with urgent care services too.

And now Mercy Health has plans to transform the former Old Country Buffet building into an urgent care facility.

The building is located at 1670 E. Sherman Blvd. It's a location very near where the new hospital is under construction.

Plans call for some of the space to be devoted to workplace health. The building may open as soon as March of 2019.

The move is designed to provide greater access to health care services that are in high demand throughout the Lakeshore region.

"We are looking forward to offering more convenient and accessible health care offerings near where our community members work and live," said Michael Weessies, Vice President of Business Health Solutions for Mercy Health.

"Workplace Health will now be more centrally located for all of the individuals who are employed at the nearby industrial park's many businesses and also for our nearly 4,000 colleagues who utilize our Workplace Health services."

The Urgent Care center will allow patients access to a provider when their ailments are not life-threatening, such as insect bites, coughs, earaches and sore throats. To learn more about when to visit an Urgent Care versus the Emergency Department, view the guide.
