NORTON SHORES, Mich. — Two new Chick-fil-A restaurants officially opened in West Michigan Thursday, Jan. 14.

There is now a Chick-fil-A in Norton Shores, in front of the Lakes Crossing Shopping Center on South Harvey Street and another in Kalamazoo, at the corner of Drake Road and West Main.

City leaders in Norton Shores are excited that the restaurant is taking the place of a previous restaurant that stood vacant at the site for several years.

The city has been focused on attracting new business to Harvey Street — just down the road from a proposed casino site.

"That work will continue, so I hope that will lead to some further things. There are a few ideas being kicked around but nothing definite out there right now and I think people are waiting to see if the casino does in fact get built and that is a catalyst, I don't know," Norton Shores Mayor Gary Nelund said.

The restaurant will be drive-through only until indoor dining restrictions lift.

It opens at 7:30 a.m. and a traffic plan is in place to have customers lining up in adjacent parking lots so the expected traffic back ups don't impact drivers on Harvey Street.

With the opening of new Chick-fil-A restaurants comes the traditional First 100 event. However, due to COVID-19, those events have not been happening.

Instead, Chick-fil-A has been providing 100 essential and frontline workers with free meals for a year. To see who the “Community Hero” recipients are, visit the Chick-fil-A Norton Shores Facebook page
