Local auto pioneer Dale Berger dies at 79

According to his family, Dale was instrumental in growing his father's dealership and had a love for performance cars and racing.

A well-known West Michigan businessman passed away this week. Dale R. Berger, a third generation Chevrolet dealer in Grand Rapids, died Monday, May 28. His family said he started in business with his dad when he was just 15 years old.

Berger was a graduate of East Grand Rapids High School and the General Motors Institute.

According to his family, Dale was instrumental in growing his father's dealership and had a love for performance cars and racing. Because of his passion, he introduced the dealership to muscle-car, high performance and wholesale parts businesses.

A service will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, at Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life service immediately following at 1 p.m. The family says contributions may be made to New Hope Community Church, 6175 Northland Dr. NE. Rockford, Mich. 49341
