Litehouse Foods taking over Lowell biodigester

Litehouse Foods announced it was taking over the water pre-treatment portion of the facility.

LOWELL, Mich. - Once a smelly nuisance is going to get new life in Lowell.

Litehouse Foods announced to the community this week that it was taking over the water pre-treatment portion of the biodigester facility.

The biodigester previously processed farm waste and other materials, which caused a strong sewage-like smell to drift into the surrounding neighborhood. It was eventually shut down. The owners attempted to sell the facility multiple times.

Litehouse sent letters to people living nearby explaining the new operation and showing photos of the biodigester generator getting hauled away from the site.

The company plans on using the pre-treated water at it's nearby salad dressing operation and says, it will not cause any odor in the community.
