Grand Haven City Council votes to draft a medical marijuana facility ordinance

The City Council's next meeting is on May 6.

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — At Monday's Grand Haven City Council meeting, the council voted 3-2 to direct the city's planning commission to draft an ordinance allowing medical marijuana facilities within the city.

The rules would establish the way new medical marijuana facilities could start in the area.

The issue has divided the city. At the meeting, public comment was allowed and exchanges between the public and city council got heated.

After marijuana was made legal in Michigan as a result of the 2016 election, the Grand Haven city council decided to ban recreational facilities.

The City Council's next meeting is on May 6.
