Unlikely business begins selling CBD products

Many companies have started to bring CBD to their shelves.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — CBD is taking the world by storm. It's the non-psychoactive compound derived from the marijuana plant. Websites, smoke shops and even highway billboards tout CBD products.

Many businesses are jumping on the bandwagon stocking their shelves, including one franchise where you'd least expect to find it.

"We've got water, we've got Chapsticks, we've got gummies and sprays and oils," Family Video manager Crystal Bitz said.

Bitz manages the location on Leonard Street in Grand Rapids.

"A lot of people come in because they've been getting it other places and now when they come in to rent their movies, they realize they can come in and get their CBD too."

Family Video prides itself on testing out unique and different strategies for its customers.

"We have done so many different things over the years, that's what keeps us a little bit relevant," Bitz said.

Between the signs outside and inside, the store sells the products at least a few times a day.

"First of all they ask why family video is carrying it, because you know, we are a video store," Bitz said.

Bitz said the company's owner gave CBD a try and loved it. So, he decided his customers ought to have the chance, too.

"I already had somebody come in this morning and buy it because they heard that Family Video carried it and they trust what Family Video has," Bitz said.

From topicals and oils to even CBD for pets, the store carries a wide variety of options.

"Every employee knows the basics about it, we went through training, they know what it helps, what we offer, how much each thing is," Bitz said.

The stores on Leonard and Burton streets have the plant-derived product in stock, but within the next few weeks, all other Family Videos in the area will also carry it.

"It is definitely something that everyone is trying and going with, and going with the holistic nature and trying stuff instead of pills and prescriptions and trying things, so we'll have it here as long as it sells," Bitz said.
