Mattawan Police Department officer Chelsey Omilian has been charged with the reckless discharge of a firearm in a stolen vehicle incident.

The shooting happened around 8 a.m. on Nov. 3 near the intersection of Main Street and W. McGIllen Avenue.

At a traffic stop, the officer shot at the stolen vehicle, injuring a female suspect.

The officer is facing charge is a misdemeanor that is punishable by 90 days in jail and/or $500.

The officer turned herself into the court this afternoon, Nov. 17. She was released on a personal recognizance bond.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, Gary Lynne Kingsbury, has been charged and arraigned for unlawful use of a motor vehicle and a felony for resisting and obstructing. Kingsbury is facing two years in prison or $1500 for the first charge. The second charge is punishable by two years in prison and/or $2000.

Kingsbury remains lodged in the Van Buren County Jail.
