WALKER, Mich. (WZZM) -- The Michigan State House Speaker is promoting a new plan to help fix the state's roads and bridges.

Jase Bolger was among the lawmakers attending the West Michigan street summit Friday. Bolger wants to put an additional $500-million a year into repairing Michigan's roads.

Fellow Republican Representative Roger Victory says Bolger's plan is only the start.

"More still needs to be done, this is what I call the foundation to be laid for additional solutions to this problem, but we need to get started-- our roads are in critical shape, our cars are being abused on these roads and the cost is great to our citizens of Michigan."

The street summit was held at Meijer headquarters and was hosted by the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce and the Grand Valley Metropolitan Council.
