Michigan State Police investigating death of 1-year-old girl

The baby was found unresponsive in a home on W. Stanton Road near N. Hillman Road after 5:30 a.m. Monday.

MONTCALM COUNTY, Mich. — Michigan State Police are investigating the death of a baby in Montcalm County.

The child, 1, was found unresponsive in a home on W. Stanton Road near N. Hillman Road around 5:30 a.m. Monday, according to police. Despite lifesaving efforts by the police, the baby was pronounced dead. 

Family members identified the child as Vayda Vasquez, who would have turned 2 next month. They said she was at a babysitter's house at the time of her death. 

The crime lab is assisting the police with the investigation and will provide updates as it becomes available.
