Crews find body of Evart teen who fell through ice on Muskegon River

The body of 15-year-old Dylan Shaw was recovered Tuesday.

EVART, Mich. - Authorities have located the body of an 15-year-old Evart boy who fell through the ice on Muskegon River back in February.

According to 9&10 News, Dylan Shaw's body was recovered about an hour and half after the search started Tuesday. Crews found his body along the bank of the river about 3.5 miles from where he went missing.

Shaw and two other teens fell through the ice on Feb. 7. The two others were able to get out of the ice near the 50th Avenue bridge, just south of River Road, but Shaw was unable to make it to shore.

Crews had to suspend the search in February, because river conditions made it too difficult. However, authorities resumed searching in April -- although the river was still high and fast.

9&10 says a candle has burned every day at Evart High School, where Shaw attended, since the teen fell through the ice. The school promised to burn it until Shaw was found.

Undersheriff John Keathley tells WPBN-TV the river was lower Tuesday, making conditions better for searching. He says he hopes the discovery of Shaw's body "does bring closure to the family."

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
