Grand Rapids man drowns after jet ski wreck at Dumont Lake

The Allegan County Sheriff's Department updated the media on the situation early Monday morning.

ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. -- The body of a man who fell from a jet ski into Dumont Lake has been recovered after a four hour search.

Deputies say they got a call around 3:42 p.m. on Sunday, July 15 that Gregory Williams of Grand Rapids disappeared under the water. Witnesses say he and his son were riding the jet ski when it flipped over.

Williams was a passenger on the jet ski. He was not wearing a life jacket at the time. The two tried to swim to a sunken island in the middle of the lake, but Williams' son did not see him resurface so he flagged down another boat for help.

The body was found around 7:53 p.m. in approximately 35 feet of water in the middle of the lake. The body was then brought to shore and Williams was pronounced dead.
