Police say a body found in shallow water near the bank of the Grand River could be the kayaker missing since Feb. 27.

There is "good potential" that a body found Saturday morning in the Grand River near Old Town is the kayaker who went missing on the evening of Feb. 27, Lansing Police Chief Mike Yankowski said.

Police received a call around 9:15 a.m. about what appeared to be a body in shallow water near the banks of the river near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Willow Street, he said.

A police dive team located the body. The family of the missing kayaker, a 24-year-old man from Bath, was on the scene Saturday morning.

"We’re waiting on positive confirmation on who the deceased might be," Yankowski said.
