Easter is almost here: Quick, easy and affordable DIYs

Easter may be just two days away, but there’s still time to prep for the holiday!

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - From Easter baskets to Easter egg hunts, here are some simple, unique and inexpensive DIY Easter projects.

Dyeing eggs is synonymous with Easter. Here’s a creative way to take it one step further:

ITEMS NEEDED
Eggs (Extra Large preferable, NOT hard-boiled)
Egg dyeing kit
3 Tablespoons of vinegar
½ cup warm water
1 Tablespoon water (any temperature)
Two bowls or two cups large enough to fit an egg in
Paper Towels
A push pin or needle
Small strip of paper
Pen

INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1. Put 1 dye tablet in a cup. Add 1 Tablespoon of water. Let the tablet dissolve.

Step 2: Add ½ cup of warm water and add 3 Tablespoons of vinegar. Stir until it’s dissolved.

Step 3: Dip eggs into bowl or cup (Do NOT hard boil the eggs). The longer you leave the egg in, the brighter the color will be.

Step 4: Remove the egg from the dye and place on a drying tray (often provided with dye kits). Let egg(s) dry.

Step 5: Using a push pin or needle poke a hole on both ends of the egg, the size of a headphone jack.

Step 6: Blow into one end, blowing out yolk and egg whites into empty bowl or cup.

Step 7: Run egg under water to clean out on excess inside the egg. Let the egg(s) dry.

Step 8: Using the paper and pen, write a funny or cute note for a child or someone special

Step 9: Roll up the note and stick inside the egg.

Step 10: Have your special someone smash the egg to find a cute note inside!

If your egg cracks or breaks at any time during the above process, don’t worry! You can still use the remaining shell to make an awesome-looking Easter decoration.

Using half of the shell, clean the inside of the egg, then place a tea candle inside and light the candle. Now you’ve got an instant decoration for your table or Easter display! You can get a pack of tea candles at a dollar store.

From eggs to Easter baskets, if you forget to get one or can’t find an old one, here’s an alternative.

Using the egg carton container, cut off the top. Taking the remaining bottom, scatter candy into the holes (where the eggs sat). Feel free to stick a dyed egg or two to give your DIY Easter basket a pop of color.
