HOLLAND, Mich. — If you've spent any time in the Grand Rapids area, there's a chance you're probably familiar with HopCat and their iconic Cosmik Fries. The eatery is a known staple in the restaurant industry here in Beer City, USA.
However, folks on the Lakeshore have had to travel a bit inland to get their fix. Not anymore. Hopcat opened its Holland location at the end of April after much speculation.
"Honestly, we were waiting for the right development," said general manager Bart Carrigan.
HopCat fever is still strong even in a somewhat new market. The April 27 grand opening was a big deal in the Tulip City. The first 20 customers were to be given free Cosmik Fries. As you would expect, they had a line that wrapped down the street.
"We had a two-hour wait...some folks had been camping out since 5 A.M.," he said. "I couldn't believe it. It was the night that it was snowing...couldn't believe it."
Just like the other HopCat locations, the Holland stop boasts local beers from the community as well as Holland specific artwork on the walls. But how's the food? It's the consistent HopCat flavors you've come to love while adding a couple new items like the Crunchy Buddha Bowl. The bowl is a health conscious offering that has grains, quinoa, vegetables, etc. Basically all the things you would need to keep the guilt away while on a diet but still stepped foot inside a place with delicious fried foods.
