MUSKEGON, Mich. - The West Michigan Shoreline Food Processing Initiative was awarded a $50,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The food processing initiative was launched in October 2017 as a way to expand the agriculture economy on the lakeshore.

The Muskegon-based food processing initiative has continuing to develop and thus far has conducted economic impact studies, reviewed best practices, secured a seed fund grant from the Consumers Energy Foundation, developed an education curriculum and identified locations for the manufacturing park.

The initiative will identify existing products made or grown in Michigan and find ways to get those items into more U.S. and foreign markets.
