Disc Golf will 'likely' return to McGraft Park in Muskegon

Play had been suspended earlier this month and all disc golf baskets were removed from the park due to concerns about Oak Wilt, a fungus that can kill trees.

MUSKEGON, Mich. — Disc Golf will likely return to McGraft Park in Muskegon, this according to city leaders.

Play had been suspended earlier this month and all disc golf baskets were removed from the park due to concerns about Oak Wilt, a fungus that can kill trees.

"Surprise, shock, sadness. It felt like the rug was pulled from underneath us. Especially since we just went through a Michigan winter and we all look forward to playing," says Donald Jensen a disc golf enthusiast and owner of Sweet Spot Disc Golf.

Now the city has received new information from an Oak Wilt expert at Michigan State University. Jensen says he talked with the same expert on Monday.

"He determined that these trees are strong enough to withstand a hit from a disc and there is no need to close the park," says Jensen.

The city is hoping to return the disc golf baskets this summer.
