UPDATE, May 21 - The victim has been identified as Antwuane Deshone Keys.
MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich - A man is dead after a shooting early Sunday morning in Muskegon Heights, police said.
The victim, in his 20s, was shot in the chest and allegedly robbed in the 2300 block of Jefferson Street, said Muskegon Heights Police Chief Joseph Thomas.
Before he died, the victim told responders that there was more than one masked suspect involved in the alleged robbery, Thomas said.
Muskegon Heights Police and the Michigan State Police Task Force are working together to investigate the case. Thomas said investigators found a bullet casing at the scene that gives them reason to believe it was the shot fired at the victim.
The victim's girlfriend told police that he was driving her car, which investigators found in Muskegon, Thomas added.
"We have reason to believe this is not a random shooting," he said. "This person was targeted, and usually that happens between people that are affiliated with each other."
Thomas said this is the first homicide of 2018 in Muskegon Heights.
