Mercy Health's new Muskegon campus is celebrating a milestone in the building process on Thursday, Oct. 26.
A topping off ceremony was held on Thursday evening when the final steel beam was placed on the top of the tenth floor.
"I can't believe that it was almost a year ago that we were out here for the groundbreaking," says Roger Spoelman of Mercy Health.
The $271 million project was originally calling for just nine floors, however, a tenth was added for future use as a medical and surgical floor.
"It's really the culmination of 20 years of consolidating health systems in Muskegon and bringing three different hospitals together," says Spoelman.
The 267-bed medical center will bring all the medical and surgical services under one roof in Muskegon.
"It represents a solution to the confusion of not knowing where to go and it really simplifies life for patients, care-givers and physicians," says Spoelman.
It is expected to open in June of 2019.
