Muskegon wins Strongest Town Contest

The competition is bracket based, and Muskegon beat out Marshall, Mich., Greenville, S.C., Annapolis, Md. and Kent, Ohio for the title.

MUSKEGON, Mich. - The City of Muskegon has been named the Strongest Town for 2018 in the third annual Strong Towns Contest.

The competition is bracket based, and Muskegon beat out Marshall, Mich., Greenville, S.C., Annapolis, Md. and Kent, Ohio for the title.

The final match-up with Kent was a close race, and Muskegon won by just four percentage points.

The Strong Towns website describes how Muskegon established itself in each round of the competition:

  • Round One: The community's strong citizen spirit
  • Round Two: The new residential developments and economic engagement with tourists
  • Round Three: The city's challenges and successes
