In July of 2018, Wade told the court that the gun he was handling "accidentally" fired in their home on Wood Street, killing his longtime girlfriend.

MUSKEGON, Mich. — A Muskegon man who police believe accidentally shot and killed his long-time girlfriend will not serve any jail time.

Otha Wade pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the death of 71-year-old Wilma Roberson. Friday, he was sentenced to a year on an electronic tether and five years of probation.

In July of 2018, Wade told the court that the gun he was handling "accidentally" fired in their home on Wood Street, killing Roberson.

According to police, Wade and Roberson lived together for 50 years.

Wade told the court he removed a magazine from the gun not knowing a bullet was in the chamber. The family of Roberson supported the "no-jail" sentence.
