MUSKEGON, Mich. — Work to dismantle the closed B.C. Cobb power plant has reached another milestone.
Special equipment was assembled on the top of the remaining stack to cut and drop chunks of the structure. The equipment, which has now been removed, helped reduce the stack's size from 650 ft. to 180 ft.
The rest of the stack will be knocked down with a wrecking ball and high-reach excavators beginning in the spring.
Forsite Development, the plant's North Carolina based owner, anticipates demolition of the stack and the plant to be completed by the end of the year.
The company along with Muskegon city and county leaders hope the cleared site can be developed into a deep-water marine terminal.
