GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A West Michigan school district is now home to another award-winning football coach.
On Tuesday, Northview head coach Ryan Oshnock was named the Lions High School Football Coach of the Week. Oshnock was told about the honor on the Detroit Lions' video series, "Head Coach Hangout."
The Northview Wildcats are 7-0 for the first time since 1977 and are now in the driver's seat for a conference title in the Ottawa-Kent Conference-Black Division.
This is Oshnock's fourth year as head coach at Northview and his 13th year coaching high school football. The Wildcats' recent win against Grand Rapids Catholic Central was Oshnock's 50th win as a high school football coach.
Before coming to Northview, Oshnock coached at Forest Hills Northern and West Ottawa. He also served as assistant coach at James F Byrnes High School in South Carolina and has experience leading college football teams.
On Friday, Oshnock and the Wildcats will be hosting Holland Christian.

Each week, the Detroit Lions select a coach who "best demonstrates success on and off the field" to recognize as High School Football Coach of the Week. A prize of $1,000 is donated to the coach's football program.
At the end of the year, a High School Football Coach of the Year will be selected to win a $3,000 prize.
This program has been running for the past 28 years, and has awarded over $503,000 to schools across Michigan. You can learn more about it here.
