Volunteers Tuesday will prepare tens of thousands of ready-to-eat meals to those in need. It is part of Heart of West Michigan United Way's Day of Action.
According to the organization’s president and CEO, Michelle Van Dyke, 39 percent of people in Kent County can’t afford to meet their basic needs, and one in five children struggle with hunger.
On Tuesday, June 21, HWMUW will help feed families by hosting “Food From The Heart.” The goal for the community-wide event is to bring together 500 volunteers for three hours who will help serve 75,000 meals.
They will assemble ready-to-prepare meals that will be distributed through Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank to food pantries across Kent County.
The event will be held between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at Van Andel Arena, 130 Fulton St. West in Grand Rapids.
