GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- Cold winter temperatures can create a hardship for families who struggle to pay their heating bills.
That's why the ACSET Community Action holds the annual Walk for Warmth every year to help those in need. The organization has found a very special partner in Sibley Elementary School.
"I am a second grade student at Sibley School. We care about our neighbors."
In one well-written sentence, Oscar sums up why his school works so hard to raise money for the Walk for Warmth.
"It's a longstanding tradition, over 10 years, with our second grade classes," explains Bernice Wisnieski, a second grade teacher at Sibley. "Our social studies, many other standards focus on citizenship and building community. What an awesome way to bring it to life, by doing a service project."
