A Grand Rapids man says he's made some good investments and that is how he can afford to buy toys worth thousands of dollars for the Kent County Toys for Tots campaign.

Jack Cooper and a squad of volunteers and U.S. Marines made their annual holiday shopping trip to Toys R Us Friday night. Cooper says his father in law was a U.S. Marine, the Marines are active with Toys for Tots so for the last several years he has financed a big Toys for Tots shopping spree.

This year for the first time he also decided to go public, explain why he does it and encourage others to give what they can.

“It was time to make it public get the word out that we need help from everybody,” says Cooper. “It's a nice warm feeling that you can put a smile on somebody's face this time of year.”

Price tag for Friday’s shopping trip was just over $10,000. Toys for Tots says donations like Coopers help the charity provide gifts for children in all age groups.
