Mother charged with abuse after infant suffers serious injuries

Deputies say the 3-month-old infant suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries consistent with "shaken baby syndrome."

A mother has been charged with child abuse after her baby was taken to the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and suffered serious injuries.

The Kent County Sheriff's Department says, their office was called in on a report of a 3-month-old infant with injuries consistent with “shaken baby syndrome.”

Deputies say the infant suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The original incident occurred in the 1400 Block of Glen Park N.W. in Sparta Township, according to the department.

The mother was charged with child abuse, 1st Degree and child abuse 3rd degree. She is currently lodged at the Kent County Correctional Facility on a $250,000 bond. Her name has not been released yet pending her arraignment.
