Spectrum eliminates Urgent Care registered nurses

Spectrum Health is removing all Registered Nurses from their 5 Urgent Care Centers. Patients may now be examined by medical professionals with less training who earn less money.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Patients at Spectrum Health Urgent Care centers will no longer be examined and treated by a registered nurse.

“During our regular evaluation of organizational needs and best practices, we identified the need to modify staffing needs in our Urgent Cares,” explains spokeswoman Ellen Bristol. “The new staffing model allows patients to receive the care they need by the most appropriate health care professionals.”

Under the new staffing, Registered Nurses leaving Spectrum Health Urgent Care say patients will now get treatment from medical caregivers who have less training and earn less money.

“Spectrum Health Urgent Care sites are committed to providing the safest, highest quality patient care,” says Bristol.

Spectrum Health has four urgent care centers in metropolitan Grand Rapids and one in Zeeland. Some of the Registered Nurses losing their jobs may find positions in other departments at Spectrum Health.
