Teen bicyclist dies after being hit by a car in Georgetown Township

Jenison Public Schools confirms the 14-year-old died from his injuries.

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A 14-year-old boy is dead after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle in Georgetown Township over the weekend.

Xzavier Gust was going to be a freshman at Jenison High School this year, according to school officials Tuesday morning. Gust was riding his bike around 10:30 p.m. Sunday on 44th Street, east of 8th Avenue, near the center lane when he was hit by a car.

Gust was taken to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in critical condition Sunday night. On Monday, Gust died from his injuries.

Police say the teen was not wearing a helmet. The incident is under active investigation.
