Three women rescued from Dowagiac Creek in Niles

NILES TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Three women are safe after their inner tube flipped in the Dowagiac Creek.

According to the Berrien County Sheriff's Office, due to recent heavy rains the creek was high and moving at a steady pace.

Three women where sharing an inner tube on the creek on Sunday evening when it flipped over into the water. None of the women had on life jackets police say.

Two of the women struggled to get to shore while a third was able to hang on to a tree that bridged the river. Rescue crews were able to get to all three women and pull them to safety.

The incident prompted the sheriff's office to remind the community how important it is to wear life jackets and other personal floatation devices.
