Federal management plan being put together to address PFAS

The federal management plan that is expected to tackle the issue should be complete by the end of the year.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A federal management plan is being put together to address concerns related to PFAS.

Wednesday afternoon multiple United States Senators gathered for a federal hearing on the toxic chemical. Michigan's U.S. Senator Gary Peters called for the hearing saying he wanted to know more about PFAS and it's affects on water in Michigan and other states.

Peters says more awareness and action is needed.

"It's important for folks to realize that these chemicals are with us in our everyday life, they are stain resistant fabrics, they may be our furniture, our clothing, our no stick pans for cooking, these are compounds we have all been exposed to and we need to be concerned about it," says Peters.

The issue is not just affecting Michigan several states like New Hampshire, Delaware were represented too.

One of the people who spoke at the hearing was a Mother who said she was shocked to learn about the toxic chemical which has been dumped in multiple areas across her state. She went on to say that her two young children were exposed to PFAS after it was confirmed to be in the water at their daycare.

The federal management plan that is expected to tackle the issue should be complete by the end of the year.
