Heavy rain causes minor flooding in Wyoming

Drivers in the area should avoid trying to drive through the standing water on the road.

WYOMING, Mich. - Heavy rainfall Wednesday caused some minor flooding in some areas of West Michigan, particularly in Wyoming.

Around 12:40 p.m., water was reportedly flooding over the roadway at 54th Street SW and Clay Avenue SW. Crews have not shut down the area yet, but is likely.

Earlier this morning, a water main break forced officials to close 28th Street SW at Byron Center Avenue SW. It's not immediately known what caused the break and whether it was related to the current weather conditions.

West Michigan has seen some very heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms throughout the morning and afternoon -- some areas have seen localized, minor flooding. In Ottawa County, Polk Street between 96th Avenue and 104th Avenue were impacted by flooding, as well as Chicago Drive and 48th Avenue.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office say the continued heavy rains will cause the Grand River to rise, but the crest is expected until early next week. No widespread flooding is anticipated, but low lying areas may continue to see water over roadways.
