GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - For the last couple years, students from Discovery Elementary School have been mentored by employees at a West Michigan business.
Walther Trowal LLC is a metal surface finishing company that manufactures machinery, creates system solutions as well as repair, maintenance and testing services. For nearly two years, members of the Walther team have mentored students from Discovery Elementary in Kentwood.
For the first time since the mentoring program was created, students are getting the chance to visit the facility and see what their mentors do each day. Walther also surprised the kids with a pizza party.
Students have spent every Friday with their mentors during the school year—often reading together and doing team building activities. Walther says they use each Friday to bring something special to the students.
