Hundreds of pounds of spilled meat shuts down Ottawa County road

Dispatchers said there was "meat product" in the road.

JAMESTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A meat spill shut down 8th Avenue north of M-6 for a couple of hours Monday morning.

Crews headed to the scene around 9:30 a.m. on a report of debris in the roadway.

"We got out here and found several hundred pounds of mystery meat ground into the street. Looks like either ground sausage and/or hot dogs," said Duane Miedema the chief of Jamestown Fire.

The crews spent the morning cleaning the road by scraping the meat off and hosing down what was ground into the street. Miedema said they needed to clear it all off because it is slippery.

Three lanes of about 100 feet of the roadway was covered in the meat.

"We don't know how it got there," said Miedema.

Investigators are trying to determine where the meat came from.
