Michigan Special Olympics athletes head to Seattle for USA Summer Games

A contingent of Special Olympics Michigan athletes flew out of Gerald R. Ford International Airport Saturday afternoon to compete in the USA Summer Games in Seattle.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A contingent of athletes from west and mid-Michigan are headed to Seattle to compete in the Special Olympics USA Summer Games.

The group flew out of Gerald R. Ford International Airport Saturday afternoon. Events include everything from basketball and volleyball to swimming, track and unified flag football. The athletes say they spent many hours practicing for the competition.

“I lost 22 pounds for the Seattle games,” says volleyball player Adele Brown. “I practice a lot. I’m ready and focused.”

All together there is a group of about 100 athletes, coaches and staff from Special Olympics Michigan going to the games.
