Michigan's Jim Harbaugh on rivalry trash talk: 'We could all use a break'

Harbaugh refused to give any updates on injuries this week, said he wasn't going to discuss any game-plan specific decisions.

Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh took the microphone for his weekly news conference in advance of the Michigan-Michigan State game on Monday.

And he didn't want to say much of anything.

Harbaugh refused to give any updates on injuries this week, said he wasn't going to discuss any game-plan specific decisions.

And whether or not he's opted to ask his players to keep the U-M-MSU trash talk at a minimum this week, Harbaugh basically nodded.

"I think we could all use a break from the cliches that have been plowed so thoroughly on both sides," he said.

Harbaugh got into his own Twitter spat with Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio last December after Dantonio was asked about being passed over by the Outback Bowl for Michigan after posting a better record and a win in the series last season.

Dantonio said he'd keep his focus on beating Michigan on the field.

And Harbaugh added this: "Saw Coach D comments on continuing to 'focus' on how 'he' can beat Michigan. Congrats on turning around a 3-9 team, plagued with off field issues. Good for BIG to have him back."

Elsewhere, Harbaugh refused to say whether or not Michigan junior defensive end Rashan Gary would be back on the field this week. Gary has missed the past two games with a shoulder injury and has been limited in each of the last four.

"I don't know if he's going to be back this week," Harbaugh said. "(Beyond that), I'm not going to talk about any injuries."

Harbaugh was asked whether fullback Ben Mason was limited last week due to an injury.

"Not talking about injuries," he said.

He was then immediately asked if Mason was limited due to a game plan decision.

"I'm not talking about any participation, game-plan specific (stuff) this week," Harbaugh continued.

Asked about injured wide receiver Tarik Black? Same answer.

"Not talking about injuries, statuses, schemes," he said.

U-M and MSU kickoff Saturday (noon, Fox) at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing.
