One Good Thing: Great Muskegon Kennel Club

The Kennel Club recently helped the Muskegon County Sheriff's Department purchase a new K9 officer after their previous one passed away.

MUSKEGON, Mich. - The Muskegon area law enforcement community was dealt a blow recently. But, a local non-profit is trying to help them recover.

Rex was Muskegon County's only K-9 unit in the Sheriff's Department. Unfortunately, Rex passed away not too long ago because of cancer. The Greater Muskegon Kennel Club had just met Rex not long before he passed. And they knew it would be expensive for the county to replace him. So they put together some money, and last month they presented the County Board of Commissioners with $16,000 to purchase a new K-9 which Officer Jamie Ottinger tells me he will be picking up the new pooch sometime in October.

The Greater Muskegon Kennel Club has been helping their community for eight decades with a variety of services. For all they do, including helping fund a new K-9 for the Sheriff's Department, they get today's One Good Thing.
