Michigan Secretary of State race election results | Democrat Jocelyn Benson wins reelection

ABC News projects Democratic incumbent Jocelyn Benson to win Michigan's Secretary of State race over Trump-endorsed Republican challenger Kristina Karamo.

DETROIT — ABC News projects Democratic incumbent Jocelyn Benson to win Michigan's Secretary of State race over Republican challenger Kristina Karamo.

Benson declared victory and says her second term is a signal from voters for truth and democracy.

"In this election, democracy was on the ballot. Our right to vote was on the ballot. And tonight, democracy won here in Michigan," Benson said.

"Michiganders showed the world that Michigan voters will vote for truth over lies. They will vote for facts over conspiracy theories. And they know the value of real results over empty promises."

Republican Kristina Karamo falsely claimed that Biden didn't win Michigan in 2020. Earlier this week, a judge threw out a lawsuit she filed that challenged absentee voting in Detroit.

Due to expanded absentee voting, election officials say you shouldn't expect all results to be available on election night.
