Kent County residents weigh in on voting in a swing state in this year's election

Voters say they recognize how tight the race is this year.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — In about two weeks, ballots will be counted one by one to decide the next president.

Some voters have already cast their vote in this year’s election via absentee voting

"I just cast my vote just now. I just mailed it in,” said voter David Rodriguez.

"I wanted to make sure my vote was in in plenty of time,” said voter Gregory Trowbridge.

Others say they are waiting until the big day to vote.

"I'm gonna vote on Election Day. I want to be I want to go in there, and I want to physically put it down,” said voter Raymond Lowe.

But no matter when you cast your vote, voters like Lowe, a registered Republican, say they recognize how crucial their vote is in a swing state like Michigan.

“I think a lot of people kind of live in this world like, Well, my vote's not going to matter. But if enough people think that and collectively that happens, then that could sway the difference,” said Lowe.

Fellow voter Ann Bourdon agrees voting in this election makes a difference.

"It's definitely a really important election. I feel that it's super important for everybody to get out and vote and just to have your voice be heard,” said Bourdon.

In September, U.S. World News highlighted Kent County as one of the battleground counties in this year's race for its demographic makeup and history of wins for both parties.

Democratic voter David Rodriguez says that doesn't mean what happens here will happen in every county.

"I think Kent County is probably indicative of what the whole country looks like in terms of demographics. But I don't think focusing on one county is going to really tell us what the outcome is going to be, because who knows?" said Rodriguez.

Regardless if voters do or don't feel the weight of the election on the ballots, they all say they feel good going into this year's election.

"I'm optimistic that it will turn out the way it should,” said Bourdon.
