WASHINGTON - Sen. Bernie Sanders will be coming back to Michigan, this time to campaign for Democratic candidate for governor Gretchen Whitmer, the Associated Press reports.

The report indicates that Sanders will be at an event on Oct. 19 in Ann Arbor. This will be one of several stops the Vermont senator will be making in a nine-state tour ahead of the midterm election.

Sanders last came to Michigan in August, just two days before the primary election. He endorsed and helped campaign for Abdul El-Sayed, a Democratic gubernatorial candidate who was defeated by Whitmer in the Aug. 7 primary.

Whitmer was recently endorsed by former president Barack Obama.

A Detroit Free Press poll shows that the race for governor between Whitmer and Schuette was tightening at the end of September.

The poll showed Whitmer with 45 percent support, compared with 37 percent for Schuette. Another 11 percent were either undecided or refused to answer, while 2 percent said they support Libertarian Bill Gelineau and 5 percent said they support another unspecified candidate.
