Portage mom arrested for allegedly abusing infant twins; 1 son is dead

A Portage mother is facing several charges in connection to the death her infant son and the alleged abuse of his twin brother.

PORTAGE, Mich. - Portage police went to a home back in January on Woodlawn Drive on reports of a 5-month-old baby having a seizure.

When the child was taken to the hospital for treatment, physicians noticed some suspicious injuries and trauma that prompted an investigation.

During the investigation, police found that the infant had a twin brother with similar signs of trauma and he was immediately taken from his mother, 21-year-old Jennifer Mohler.

On Feb. 13, the baby that was taken to the hospital in January died from his injuries. An autopsy revealed the injuries to the baby's head and neck were the cause of death, and it was thus ruled a homicide.

Mohler was arrested on June 19 on two counts of first-degree child abuse and one count of felony murder.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Portage Department of Public Safety at 269-329-4567 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
