Positively Muskegon Events for September

Andy O' Riley shows off some fun events headed to Muskegon.

September 7 is the United Way Day of Caring – Hundreds of volunteers from area companies give up their day to help 15 - 25 veterans out with tasks around the house. Might be some yard work, maybe some basic maintenance, just some relief from the day to day stuff to help them out and spruce things up a little. It’s a great opportunity for Muskegon to show how much we value friends and neighbors. It's also a great way to build community. The volunteers are treated to a nice lunch and the get one of those super cool Live United shirts

September 8 Roosevelt Park Day – Taste of the Trucks 2! This is a free event to attend. Be part of the great tastes as food trucks from all over tempt your taste buds with different cuisines. It all kicks off in the morning with a great parade that leads to the festival. There you’ll find plenty of free kids activities with everything from inflatable games to a 4-H petting zoo. We have the Mona Shores Fiddlers lined up as well as Natchez Trace and Yard Sale Underwear for music all day and plenty of liquid refreshment. Goes until 9 at the Community Center in the heart of Roosevelt Park.

September 9 – Chef Prize! It’s held at the beautiful Hampton Green Farms. It’s a competition among area chef’s to see who’s got the right stuff when it comes to something unique in the foodie world. All the proceeds go to benefit Kids Food Basket which feeds thousands of kids daily in West Michigan. There are more than 20 area restaurants, breweries, wineries and distilleries competing. There will be cooking seminars, samplings, music from Ruth and Max Bloomquist and Natchez Trace. Tickets are $50 and you can find them at http://www.chefprizemichigan.com/

September 13 kicks off the Michigan Irish Music Festival at Heritage Landing. A huge festival of all things Irish. Multiple stages of music, food vendors, beverages, authentic Irish games, vendors, kids areas, and limerick contests. It’s one of the biggest events we have all year in Muskegon. Details and tickets at Michiganirish.org. Wraps up on the 16.

September 15-October 28 – Lewis Farm Market kicks off their season of Fall fun. It’s about 20 minutes north of Muskegon off the Stony Lake Road exit. It's a great time for the entire family. Delightful animals for kids to interact with, orchard tours, an awesome farm market, live entertainment including their almost world famous pig races. This is a place to spend the day. Bring the family to enjoy all of the activities and fun.

September 29 – Art Garfunkel is at the Frauenthal Theater for a very up-close and personal experience. There are still some tickets left so if you’d like to see a true icon of the music world, head out to Muskegon and the Frau on the 29.
