PORTAGE, Mich. - Both the southbound and northbound lanes of U.S. 131 in Portage are closed because of a downed wire.

The southbound lanes are closed at Centre Avenue and the northbound lanes are closed at Shaver Road. Drivers are being redirected while crews repair the wire.

Consumers Energy expects to have the wire up and functioning by 6:30 p.m. but they are asking drivers to avoid the area in the meantime.

Because of the downed wire, traffic lights on W. Centre Avenue from Oakland Drive to U.S. 131 are out. Crews are working on getting stop signs out to those locations.

About 7,000 people lost power in Kalamazoo and Portage near the area of the downed wire.
