Michigan State Police say distracted driving might be a factor in a late morning crash that left one person dead.
The crash occurred just after 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15, on westbound I-94 near Paw Paw. Police say a semi rear-ended a car in a construction zone and hit three other cars before coming to a stop in the median.
The passenger in the first car that was hit was killed in the crash. Multiple other people are being treated at the hospital for injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, though police say congestion due to construction in the area and distracted driving appear to be factors.
MSP are asking drivers to be extra careful when approaching construction zones. Reducing speed and increasing your following distance can help prevent these crashes.
