Report: Jail transport van crashes on I-75, prisoners and deputies injured

The Michigan Department of Transportation confirmed in a tweet that a crash happened at that location around 9:25 a.m. Friday.

A Wayne County jail transport van has crashed on northbound I-75 near Clay Street in Detroit, according to WDIV-TV (Channel 4).

Channel 4 business editor Rod Meloni tweeted out a video of at least two ambulances and three law enforcement vehicles clustered in the right lane of northbound I-75.

WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) reported that the transport van was rear-ended by another vehicle. The station added that all seven people inside the vehicle — five prisoners and two deputies — sustained minor injuries.

Meloni said that prisoners were loaded onto ambulances at the scene.

Michigan State Police and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office were not immediately available for comment.

The Michigan Department of Transportation confirmed in a tweet that a crash happened at that location around 9:25 a.m. Friday, originally affecting the right-center lane, the right lane and right shoulder. The crash was cleared at 10:26 a.m., according to MDOT. The westbound I-94 ramp to northbound I-75 was temporarily closed because of the crash.
