Outdoor watering restrictions have been put into place for the city of Grand Rapids and surrounding areas throughout the weekend.

The city issued a statement Saturday afternoon for Grand Rapids Water System (GRWS) customers, stating that although the power was restored the the GRWS's Lake Michigan Treatment Plant late Friday evening and reserves in the building were back to normal levels, the voluntary outdoor water restrictions would remain in effect the entire weekend.

The GRWS is asking customers to refrain from watering the lawn or washing cars, etc.

The request affects the City of Grand Rapids, Allendale, Coopersville, Walker, East Grand Rapids, and portions of Kentwood, Ada and Cascade.

The GRWS's power went out following the severe storms and high winds Friday morning. Communities in Kent, Ottawa, Barry and Eaton counties were hit the hardest and according to Consumers Energy, about 96,000 customers are left without power as of Saturday.
