Wayback Burgers coming to Grand Haven

Wayback Burgers, a franchise that's popular on the East Coast, is expected to open in mid-December in the former Oasis Party Store building at 541 S. Beechtree St.

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (Grand Haven Tribune) - A new fast-food restaurant will soon be coming to Grand Haven’s east side.

Wayback Burgers, a franchise that's popular on the East Coast, is expected to open in mid-December in the former Oasis Party Store building at 541 S. Beechtree St.

When he first bought the building, Bhupinder Dhillon said he had planned to lease the space to a restaurant. But after he and six family members stopped at a Wayback Burgers location in Lansing, everything changed.

“We were traveling and saw this place,” Dhillon said. “I was very impressed with the food.”

Dhillon said he, his wife, their two kids, his sister-in-law and nephew each tried a different menu item that day. The menu includes burgers, fries, chicken, fish, Philly cheesesteak, salads, milk shakes and more.

“We all shared everything to see what the taste was because it looked so good,” he said. “We had a couple of opportunities to go back again and again. The thing I like about it is the freshness. It's never frozen ... even the french fries.”

There are currently four Wayback Burgers in Michigan and locations in 28 states, Washington, D.C., and several other countries.

Dhillon said he thinks his Grand Haven location will be a hit.

“This will bring great food, service and something that Grand Haven doesn't have, even in nearby cities,” he said. “In the Beechtree district, we don't have any good food on this side.”

The restaurant will feature 2,160 square feet of indoor dining space, as well as an outdoor patio. It won't include a drive-thru, but it will have a late-night pick-up window. Wayback Burgers will stay open until 2 a.m.

Dhillon said customers will also be able to order from the Wayback Burgers app and their food will be ready when they arrive. Delivery will also be available from a third party, he said.

Dhillon said he plans to soon start construction on the restaurant.

“You do the construction and they bring in all the equipment and furniture in one day and hook it up,” he said.
