"It was a normal party, everybody was drinking and smoking and you know how parties go, there's people always running their mouth -- so I guess it escalated quickly and then after that there was a gun pulled and someone's life was taken which is unfortunate," JR said.
JR says there were about 100 people at house party near the corner of Henry Avenue South East and Bates Street South East.
"I was outside with a couple of buddies, we were all standing outside and I'm sitting here smoking a cigarette and all of a sudden I hear shots ring off," JR said. "I heard the first five and I started running and after that I kept hearing them."
He said there were at least 15 shots fired, and everyone started running.
"It was frantic everybody was running, people were scattering. I didn't see who had the gun but everybody heard the shots and everybody started running," JR said.
As police were investigating, hospital staff notified officers that a 29-year-old man was brought in and was pronounced dead. The family of the victim has confirmed his identity Larry Moore.
"We're still trying to put those two pieces together and ensure that the victim was actually here and this is where the shooting took place but we do believe this is where the shooting took place," Sgt. Terry Dixon with GRPD said.
Police don't have any suspects in custody.
"First we have to place the victim at the scene, and then that's one of the tasks that our investigators are trying to do at this point is to make sure that that individual is actually here, but when that person is removed it makes our investigation a little bit more difficult," Dixon said.
JR said that part of town isn't always the safest, which is why he says he was armed.
"To be honest, I brought one on me just for my own safety, but I never pulled it out, I never - nobody even knew I had it on me, it was concealed on me. We're on the south side, where we were at isn't a good neighborhood, so I wouldn't be surprised if more than one person had a gun on them," JR said.
