West Michigan family sends third person to MSU's football program

For the Hallock family, Michigan State football is a living tradition.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Forest Hills Central's Tate Hallock will be heading to Michigan State University's football program in the fall.

Tate Hallock will be joining his brother, Tanner, who joined the team in 2017 as a linebacker. And, Ty Hallock, Tate and Tanner's dad, also played for MSU in 1989-92 as a fullback. He was drafted by the Lions in 1993. He played eight seasons in the NFL.

Tate Hallock made his decision in less than 24 hours after getting an official offer, and he announced his commitment on Twitter.

When describing the decision, Tate Hallock said he had other options but this was where he knew he wanted to go.

"Me and my brother set a goal out awhile ago," he said. "When we were younger we wanted to play with each other in college. I got the opportunity and decided to take it."

Ty Hallock also weighed in on the decision. "It certainly makes the clothing situation stay pretty good," he said while repping an MSU shirt. "And our tailgating gets to remain the same."

The older Hallock, Tanner, took to Twitter to express his excitement about the decision.

Tate, a 3-star prospect, is the No. 44 player in Michigan for this upcoming recruiting class, according to 247Sports. The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder helped the Rangers go undefeated last season until the state semifinal loss to Livonia Franklin.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Tate Hallock is the 11th verbal commitment for MSU for 2019.
