Grand Rapids natives David Harris, Kavon Frazier hold youth football camp

Nearly 200 kids participated in free youth camp at Houseman Field

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After 11 seasons in the NFL, David Harris decided to retire. But that wasn't going to stop him from hosting his annual youth football camp.

The former Jet and Patriot linebacker teamed up with Dallas Cowboys safety Kavon Frazier to hold a joint camp today at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids.

Frazier held his first youth camp last summer and his old high school, Grand Rapids Christian, but he thought it made sense to team up with Harris this time around.

"Last year our camps were a day apart so this year I called him and asked if he wanted to do it a little bit different," Frazier said.

Harris' high school, Ottawa Hills, volunteered their coaches, players and resources to help with drills and competitions. The volunteers were definitely in a giving mood--one man took the shoes off his feet to give to a child so he could participate. One police officer even drove a child to the store to buy him cleats.

"It means a lot," Harris said. "To give back and give these kids an opportunity to do something different than what they normally do in the summer time."

This is Harris' 12th year of running his camp and Frazier says he was one of the kids who participated in it in year one.

"It's crazy to be one the other side now and being able to run the camp with David, and have my name on the shirt with David...but coming back to our city, that's a no-brainer. We all love coming back to Grand Rapids and giving back to our community."
