Previously, college bound football players had to wait until National Signing Day in February before they can officially sign and commit fully to their school of choice.
The rules have changed and those players already sure of their decision could sign on the dotted line Wednesday, including a handful of local stars.
Muskegon's La'Darius Jefferson - Jefferson signed to be a Michigan State Spartan. The Big Red quarterback decommitted from Central Florida shortly after receiving an offer from Michigan State. Jefferson was voted Michigan's Mr. Football and is entering his college career as an athlete.
Muskegon's Antwan Reed - Reed too was committed elsewhere, Penn State this time, and decomitted two weeks ago. Keeping his recruitment secret since then, then 6'7" 320lb offensive tackle surprised many by signing with Western Michigan.
Grand Rapids Catholic Central's Jalen Mayfield - Mayfield committed to the Wolverines on his 17th birthday and never wavered. A lifelong Michigan fan, he jumped at the chance to go Blue and Wednesday made it official.
Rockford's Jason Whittaker - Rockford's quarterback committed to Northwestern last December and was the first Letter of Intent sent to the Wildcats Wednesday morning.
